Arwa
Yemeni Coffee

Sip culture in every cup.

Where culture meets coffee

The first people to grow coffee, still growing it.

Yemeni farmers have worked the high terraced mountains of the Haraz region for centuries, and they are widely recognised as the first cultivators of coffee anywhere.

What that gets you in the cup is unusual: fruity, floral and chocolatey all at once, roasted in house to a profile built for these beans rather than for a blend.

The quality difference

Four things we will not shortcut

Meticulously selected

Beans chosen from specific farms in the high terraced mountains of Yemen's Haraz region, not bought by the lot.

Naturally processed

Sun dried and processed the way Yemeni coffee has been for centuries, which is where much of the character comes from.

Freshly roasted

A roasting profile built in house, so the same cup tastes like the same cup every time you come in.

Uniquely flavored

Elevation and cultivation give these beans a fruity, floral and chocolatey character you will not find in a commodity blend.

Common questions.

What makes Yemeni coffee different?

Yemen is where coffee was first cultivated for drinking, and the beans are still grown on terraces at altitude and dried whole in the sun. The cup comes out fruity and winey with a heavy body, quite unlike the clean, bright profile most American cafes pour. Arwa builds its menu around that rather than smoothing it out.

What is the Sampler?

Four different preparations on a branded flight board, poured side by side so you can taste the range in one sitting. It is $15 and it is the fastest way to work out which Arwa drink is yours.

What is Khaliat Alnahl?

Honey comb: a tray of soft pull-apart buns, each one filled and glazed with honey, named for the beehive shape they bake into. Arwa makes them in house and they sell out most days.
